In the age of one click purchases and easily available credit, instant gratification is seen as the norm. We live in a microwave society “Ping” and the reward is there almost instantaneously with no afterthought on how we will pay for it. Combined with the always-on world of smartphones, which reinforces that you have to get what you want right away. However instant gratification isn’t always best – in fact, impulse control is an essential life skill. When it comes to achieving your goals, delayed gratification is the skill that you need to master to get you there faster.
